Abstract

1362842 Making connections and terminals BUNKO RAMO CORP 13 June 1972 [19 April 1971] 23949/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division H2] A coupling comprises two metallic members 10, 12 of different coefficients of thermal expansion and electromotive potential, the member 10 of higher thermal expansion being engaged around a stub end portion 26 of the member 12 which includes a terminal portion (for example an apertured flange 25 or pin 64, not shown) for connection to a post (40) or socket, there being a coating of a metal having an electromotive potential intermediate the values of the members 10, 12 interposed between the engaging surfaces of the members 10, 12. The member 10 comprises an aluminium tube having a wall 15 adapted to receive an aluminium cable (18, not shown) at one end and is shrunk by magnetic pulse forming around the stub 26 at the other end, the inner and outer surfaces 74, 76 of the wall having a coating 72 of, for example, tin, cadmium or zinc. The member 12 is of copper and has a metallic coating 78, the stub end has a roughened periphery 88 to enhance engagement with the member 10. A bead 36 of non-conducting sealant is applied to adjoining surfaces 97, 98.
