1362723 Azetidinones BEECHAM GROUP Ltd 3 Jan 1972 140/72 Heading C2C Novel compounds (IIA) (including stereoisomers and acid addition salts thereof) where X is optionally substituted amino, R is a carboxylic acid group or a salt, amide, ester or thioester derivative of a carboxylic acid group and R<SP>1</SP> signifies -CH 2 C#C-R<SP>7</SP> or -CH=C=CH-R<SP>7</SP> where R<SP>7</SP> is H or optionally substituted alkyl, aralkyl or aryl, are made by introducing R<SP>1</SP> into appropriate penicillanic acids (compounds IIA can be converted one into the other by standard methods). Methyl 3-benzyl-7-amino- (and phenoxyacetamido) - 3 - cephem - 4 - carboxylates are also prepared.
