Abstract

1362598 Comminuting apparatus; screening and air sifting apparatus CARBORUNDUM CO 22 Dec 1972 [3 Jan 1972] 59495/72 Headings B2A and B2H Foundry sand lumps are comminuted in an apparatus comprising a first surface 19, Fig. 1, with an end 21 to discharge sand lumps, an endless belt conveyor 23, Figs. 1, 2, below the first surface, means, e.g. a throwing wheel 49, Fig. 3, to project abrasive particles towards the conveyor to granulate sand lumps, a second surface 25 to receive the granulate and means to oscillate the two surfaces. The first surface 19 comprises adjustablq-spaced serrations 31, and the second surface 25 is prepared at 27. The belt conveyor 23 may include projections 43 to hold the lumps while they are being blasted. The two surfaces are supported by a trough 11 to which the oscillations are applied by means of a device 53 which comprises a piston-cylinder mechanism. Abrasive particles and sand fall through the perforations in the second surface on to the 'bottom of the trough. Oscillation may be effected hydraulically, pneumatically, mechanically or electrically, e.g. on a push-pull or release cycle. The sand/shot mixture discharged from the trough 11 passes into a separator which grades it according to weight by means of an air curtain.
