Abstract

1512428 Discharging material from hoppers on to conveyers BROWN & WILLIAMSON TOBACCO CORP 11 June 1975 [24 June 1974] 25065/75 Headings B8S and B8A Apparatus for producing a uniform layer of material, e.g. tobacco material, comprises a container 10 for receiving the material 72, a motor 24 being operative to vibrate the container 10 and thus fluidize the material 72 therein, a rotary drum 46 having pins (68) protruding from its surface, Fig. 3 (not shown), being mounted within the container 10 for co-operation with a plate 64 to provide a gap therebetween through which the material 72 is caused to pass by the rotating drum 46 on its way to a belt conveyer 30 on which the material is compressed into a bed by the lower surface of drum 46, the top surface portion of the bed being removed by a sluice 66 and recirculated back into the container 10 by the pins of drum 46 while the remainder of the bed, which is now a uniform layer of material, passes away from the container 10 on conveyer 30 in the direction of arrow 78. The material 72 may be fluidized by air jets.
