Abstract
1362558 Electro-deposition of composite metal/graphite fluoride coatings C UYEMURA & CO Ltd MONOLON CO Ltd and NIPPON CARBON CO Ltd 7 Dec 1971 56868/71 Heading C7B [Also in Division F2] A composite film of metal and solid lubricant is electro-deposited from a metal plating bath having dispersed therein a fine powder of graphite fluoride (a polymeric structure of formula (CF) n ) and containing a water-soluble surfactant having a fluorine-carbon bond in the molecule and the ability to give positive charge to the powder in the plating bath, e.g. a perfluorized quaternary ammonium compound, a perfluorized polyoxyethylene compound, or a perfluorized betaine compound. The metal deposited may be Cu, Ni (e.g. with brighteners such as saccharine and butynediol present in the bath), Cr, Zn, Cd, Sn, Fe, Pb, noble metals e.g. Ag, and alloys thereof e.g. Cu-Pb. The film may be used as a self-lubricating coating on piston rings, piston rods, bearings, cylinder walls, &c.
