Abstract

1361841 Polyester composition UNION CARBIDE CORP 19 April 1971 [2 Feb 1970 16 Sept 1970 18 Jan 1971] 20751/71 Heading C3P A polyester composition comprises an unsaturated polyester and 1-85% by wt. of the polyester of a polymer of a vinyl ester of an aliphatic saturated monocarboxylic acid, said vinyl ester polymer having an inherent viscosity of 0À12-10. The polyester is the condensation product of a polyol and an unsaturated polycarboxylic acid or anhydride. Suitable polycarboxylic acids are those of formula C n H 2n-2 - (COOH) 2 where n is 2-20. Aromatic polycarboxylic acids, saturated polycarboxylic acids and monocarboxylic acids and anhydrides may also be used in conjunction with the unsaturated polycarboxylic acids. Suitable polyols are those of formula where m + p is at least 1 and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are H or C 1 -C 20 alkyl and ether diols of formula HO-(-CaH 2a O) x -H where a is at least 1 and x is at least 2. The vinyl esters may be homopolymers of esters of formula or copolymers and interpolymers of a vinyl ester and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer. The composition also comprises a cross-linking agent, a peroxide initiator and fillers.
