Abstract

1361810 Electro-static charging FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 17 Sept 1971 [18 Sept 1970] 43565/71 Heading G2H A photo-conductive layer 11 on an insulating substrate 12 is simultaneously exposed to corona discharges 40, 41 of opposite polarities, and before or during the charging is uniformly exposed to light (pref. U. V.) via substrate 12 to provide a conductive portion 44. As shown, an n-type photoconductor 11 is negatively charged at 40 and positively charged at 41, charge migration through portion 44 producing a resultant negative charge on the surface of layer 11. The process removes the need for an earth connection during charging. More than two discharge devices may be used, comprising wires, needles or ribbons.
