Abstract

1361146 Knitting-device G H TICHENOR 26 March 1973 [17 May 1972] 23195/72 Heading D1C A hand knitting device comprises a bed 2 carrying a row of needles 1, and a single rotatable sinker 3. The sinker 3 is fixed to one end of a shaft 5 which can be rotated manually or mechanically. A short threaded portion 4, preferably tapered, guides the loops initially. The turns match the needle spacing and so assist progression of the sinker along the needles. The needles may have latches or beards 12-see Fig. 8-and may be fixed in the bed 2, or be lockable in it by means of a displaceable bar 20. A first row of loops is formed on the needles by hand and the yarn laid across the needle latches or drawn through the beards by a hook. Loops are formed by rotating the sinker shaft; and old loops knocked-over before, or after removing the shaft. The cloth is pulled down the needles and the cycle repeated.
