Abstract

1361103 Sanitary closets H ANDERSSON and H EIDET 16 Aug 1972 [17 Aug 1971 15 June 1972] 38221/72 Heading E1C In a portable sanitary closet having a ventilation outlet 3 and heating means for raising the temperature of excrement or/and garbage sufficiently to cause fermentation thereof, the heating means is in the form of a closed pipe loop 5 which contains a liquid heat transferring medium and is arranged, within a container 1 having a seat opening fitted with a cover 2, so as to lie beneath corrosion-resistant grid 4, supporting the material to be fermented, and above a collecting chamber in the bottom of the container, and a thermosiphon pump 7 is included in the pipe loop to circulate the medium on the supply of heat from a heat source which also heats the medium. The pump 7 consists of an annular chamber, heat being supplied to the central passage by either a gas flame or an electric heating element (not shown). A shunt connection 8 for gas improves the working of the pump 7. The pipe loop 5 includes several horizontal loop formations and a downward formation 6 to heat the forward end of the collecting chamber. Heavy odours are removed by a pipe 10 leading them into the interior of a heat insulating casing 11 containing the pump 7 and the heat source. The resulting flue gases pass through a flue 9 which projects partially within the ventilation outlet 3 to create a suction effect assisting the withdrawal of gases from the chamber 1. The walls of chamber 1 consist of a hollow plastics body filled with set foam plastics material.
