Abstract

1360989 Powdered fire extinguishants CHUBB FIRE SECURITY Ltd 4 Oct 1971 [5 Oct 1970] 47296/70 Heading A5A A pulverulent composition useful for firefighting comprises the product of reacting at elevated temperature a mixture of (i) a cyanate and (ii) a carbonate, sesquicarbonate or bicarbonate, either (i) or (ii) being an ammonium salt and the other an alkali or alkaline earth metal salt. The mixture may be heated to at least 100‹C under 150-400 p.s.i.g. for at least one hour, and the product ground and optionaly mixed with known additives, e.g. water-repellent and free-flow agents, additives, to promote foam-compatibility and other firefighting agents, e.g. NaHCO 3 and/or monoammonium phosphate. The Example uses potassium cyanate and ammonium carbonate.
