Abstract

1359068 Blasting TILGHMAN WHEELABRATOR Ltd 23 May 1973 [9 June 1972] 26932/72 Heading B3D An impellor wheel comprises at least one side plate 6 mounting on one face a plurality of equiangularly spaced radial throwing blades 8, and at the periphery of the side plate a shroud member 11 disposed between the back face 12 of each blade and the throwing face 13 of the next adjacent blade with a gap between adjacent shroud members for egress of abrasive. The shroud members prevent debris or other matter falling into the wheel when the wheel is mounted below the article to be shot blasted. As described, the wheel has two side walls 5, 6 between which the blades 8, of for example, chrome alloy are retained in slots 4 by spring lock devices 10. The shroud members 11 are secured to the peripheries of the side plates and extend from the rear faces of the blades to less than 2 inches from the throwing surfaces of the blades. The shroud members are at least “ inch thick at the edges of the members adjacent the throwing surfaces.
