1358281 Recirculating IC engine exhaust gases AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT and REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT 1 Oct 1971 [13 Oct 1970] 45700/71 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] A valve G for controlling re-cycling of exhaust gases to the induction manifold of an engine has a variable-section passage between inlet 37 and outlet 28 defined by the degree of overlap between port 25 in fixed plate 24 and port 34 in a plate 30 rotatable with shaft 29. Spring 32 acting on ported rotary backingwasher 31 biases plate 30 against plate 24, each plate having a thickness of 0À1-0À2 mm. Shaft 29 may be an extension of the carburetter butterfly shaft, or it may be rotated through a flexible wire and spring reel transmission by a rolling diaphragm motor responsive to induction manifold pressure.
