Abstract

1356914 Structural points L M L JANSSEN 16 Sept 1971 [12 May 1971] 43290/71 Heading F2M [Also in Division E1] Extruded hollow section horizontal and vertical frame members 1, 2 have longitudinally open compartments 4, 5 on either side of the central box 3. A locking device 16 which secures the two members together comprises a frame portion 17 the width of which engages between longitudinal flanges 12, 14 and 13, 11 in the box section 2 and a head portion 18 which engages in the open compartment 4 of an adjacent member 1. A V-section metal spring 25 fits in the rectangular aperture 26 of the frame portion 17 one, longer, arm of the spring resting against the outermost side of the aperture 26. The opposite side of the aperture abuts the flat part 28 of a metal dowel engaged in aligned holes 29 in the member 2. When the head portion 18 is inserted in the compartment 4 and rotated with the member 2 to engage under the flanges 6, 7, the dowel 27 is rotated with a special spanner to bring the steps 22, 23 on the head into engagement with the mouth of the compartment 4. Glazing or opaque panels 30 are fixed to either side of the framework by heat and sound attenuating spacers 32 and cover strips 31 which are snapped in place.
