Abstract

1356584 Centrifugal pumps JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 18 Oct 1971 [27 Oct 1970] 50877/70 Heading F1C A centrifugal pump comprises a valvecontrolled inlet 11 opening into the inner part of the annular pump chamber, a main outlet (not shown) opening into the outer part of the chamber, an impeller 14 comprising side plates 15, 16 and vanes 17, and a spiral groove 20 in the side plate 15 inclined at such an angle that liquid flows along the groove towards the impeller axis and is collected in an annular gutter 22 secured to the impeller. The gutter 22 is connected via a tube 23 with another annular gutter 24. The liquid is collected from the gutter 24 by a tubular scoop 25 connected to an auxiliary outlet 26. This arrangement assists in emptying the pump of liquid when the inlet 11 is closed. The gutters 22, 24 also collect liquid from the bearings 18, 19 flowing outwardly along the side plates 15, 16.
