Abstract
1355230 Toggle-action gun W E PERRINE 23 Dec 1971 60015/71 Heading F3C A toggle action gun comprises a frame 10, Fig. 2, a handle 11 on the frame, a hollow barrel 15 having a firing chamber 58, a bolt 29 movable in the frame to and from the firing chamber of the gun barrel, and a toggle connected between the bolt 29 and the frame 10, the toggle comprising a pair of links 35, 37 pivoted to one another by a pin 36 and pivoted respectively to the bolt 29 and the frame 10 by pins 34, 38 and having an under-centre locking position, the latter being below a line between axes 41, 42 of the pins 34, 38 and being adjustable by a screw 39. The barrel 15 is provided with a helical flange 17 which is received in a groove of a clamp 20 and with serrations 22 which are engaged by a pawl 23 to fasten the barrel in position relative to the adjusted under-centre position of the toggle. The clamp 20 is pivotally connected to the frame and secured thereto by screws 25. A push-rod 45, having a compression spring 44 mounted thereon, is connected by a pin 48 to the link 37 and is slidingly supported in a hole 46 formed in a baffle 47 of the handle 11. In use firing of the gun causes the bolt 29 to move rearwards against the action of a recoil compression spring 61, the movement being arrested by a lug 64 of the bolt engaging a stop 67 on the frame 10. The toggle moves from its locking position where it engages the screw 39 to its lowest position 60, the spring 44 having been compressed as shown in Fig. 2. In order to provide a delay before the toggle moves into the handle 11 a pair of fingers 50, 51, Figs. 2 and 6, are urged by springs 52, 53 respectively to grip the link 37 of the toggle. When sufficient force is applied to the link 37 the fingers 50, 51 release their grip and the toggle moves to its position 60. The bolt and toggle are returned by the springs 44 and 61, the fingers 50, 51 re-grip the link 37, a bullet 28 is collected from magazine 14 and is positioned in the firing- chamber by the bolt 29. A lever 70 is manually operated against the action of a spring 71 to move the toggle to its lowest position so that the bolt 29 can be moved rearwardly by a rod 72 thereon and allow the return of the bolt to collect the first bullet from the magazine 14 in readiness to commence the firing of the gun.
