Abstract

1354860 Colour television tubes HITACHI Ltd 28 June 1972 [5 July 1971 9 Aug 1971] 30217/72 Heading H1D The cone of a colour television tube is coated internally with a conductive layer of low secondary electron emissivity, because secondary electrons degrade the colour purity. In one example a film of water glass 2-10 microns thick is applied to the surface and covered with a layer 5-30 microns thick of graphite powder having a grain size of 0À5-1 microns. In other examples a mixture of water glass with titanium hydride or with graphite particles is applied to a thickness of 2-30 microns; in each case the secondary emission ratio is less than 0À25. If the coating has sufficient mechanical strength (e.g. the mixture of graphite and water glass) it may extend into the neck to make contact with connections attached to the electron gun; alternatively a coating of higher mechanical strength and a thickness of 7-40 microns may be applied to the neck and funnel, and a further coating as described above is applied over the funnel portion. The tube may be of the shadow mask type and may employ post-deflection focusing.
