Abstract

1354736 Tank cleaning apparatus B F GOODRICH CO 11 Aug 1971 [12 Aug 1970] 37740/71 Heading A4F A portable tank cleaning apparatus comprises a base 13, a tubular support 21 rotatably mounted on the base by means of a flange 20 such that the axis of rotation is different from the tubular axis, a pneumatic cylinder 26 for rotating the tubular support relative to the base, a tubular member 30 mounted in the tubular support, a pneumatic cylinder 22 for moving the tubular member in the support, a spray head 46, and an air motor 39 for rotating the spray head. A worm gear housing is fixed to tubular member 30 via part 34, and a gear-wheel 44 and a transmission member 38 are each fixed to the gear housing. A shaft 35 is rotated relative to the gear housing and tubular member 30 by air motor 39 via transmission member 38, worm 40 and wormwheel 41. Fixed to the shaft 35 at its lower end is a member 42 which rotatably carries a gearwheel 43 meshing with gear-wheel 44. The spray nozzle 49 is mounted on the gear-wheel 43. Cleaning liquid is supplied to the nozzle down the tubular member 30 and through the hollow shaft 35. Air is supplied to motor 39 through a pipe passing through tubular member 30 and then through pipe 51. A pneumatic control device _ Fig. 4, (not shown) is described for actuating the cylinders 22, 26 to automatically move the nozzle through a sequence of cleaning positions Fig. 2 (not shown). A removable stop device Fig. 5 (not shown), is provided for holding tubular member 30 during transportation of the device.
