Abstract

1365208 Blasting HITACHI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO Ltd 5 Sept 1972 [6 Sept 1971 20 Sept 1971] 41170/72 Heading B3D Apparatus, e.g. for cleaning a component 1 of a ship's hull comprises a carriage 4 for movement along the component 1 and an abrasive slinging device 19, 107 including an impeller 25, 137 supported on the carriage 4. The carriage 4 comprises rods 5-9 connected by joints 13 and bearing rollers 10-12, and a vertically adjustable member 15 supporting a bracket 18 by means of a ball joint 17 provided with a nut 22 for angular locking. The device 19 is pivotable on the bracket 18, abrasive being supplied through a hose 26 to the impeller 25, which is driven by an air motor 24 having an air supply hose 27. In a modification, Fig. 6, the supporting member 15 is slidably suspended from a wire rope 52 connected to a spring 50, a motor 53 having a chain drive, Fig. 5 (not shown), to the rollers 10 being provided for traversing the carriage 4. Further, Fig. 11, the carriage may run on two parallel flanges 103A, 103B of the component 1, the slinging device 107 being rotatable on a shaft 127 suspended from a vertically adjustable support 124.
