Abstract

1354549 Offshore structures AMOCO PRODUCTION CO 29 June 1971 30454/71 Heading E1H A floating oil drilling or production platform 10 comprises three or more, preferably four, bottle-shaped vertical floats 16 connected via risers 28 to an anchor plate 22, so that the platform is allowed limited lateral movement. Ball joints 30, 32 provided in the risers 28 allow the platform to rotate relative to the anchor plate. Retractable fins 50 at the base of the floats 16 allow some control over the wave forces acting on the platform. The Specification establishes design criteria for the size and shape of the platform and the floats in order that the mooring load on the risers may be minimised.
