Abstract

1354474 Electro-physical measurement - moisture NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 2 June 1971 [16 March 1970] 12552/70 Heading GIN In a system for determining dielectric properties of material by R.F. absorption, a STRIP LINE is used instead of a waveguide for the measuring cell. Several cell constructions are shown for measuring the moisture content of fluids of particulate material and textile webs. In Fig. 1 the strip line comprises a central conductor 4 with ground plane conducting sheets 3 (in the plane of the Figure) and insulating side panels 5, 5' . Conical matching sections 6, 6' join the line to co-axial feeders 7, 7' connected to waveguides 9, 9'. A notch may be provided in the central conductor at the start of the conical section to improve the matching Fig. 2 (not shown). In other modifications:- Fig.3 (not shown) the central conductor (33), and ground planes (31) are mounted directly between the waveguides; Figs.4a, 4b (not shown) the strip line is mounted transversely of the material feed tubes; Figs. 4c, 4d (not shown) strip material (e.g. paper) passes between the conductor and a ground plane; Figs.5, 6 (not shown) the material passes over a strip line with a single ground-plane at the bottom of a chute.
