883,828. Determining moisture content. BELOIT IRON WORKS. Feb. 27, 1958 [March 6, 1957], No. 6427/58. Class 37. Apparatus for determining the moisture content of, e.g. a travelling paper web 6, measuring its absorption of microwave electromagnetic energy comprises a generator 30 feeding through two directional couplers 156, 157 to a radiator 150 which projects the energy through a limited area of the travelling web 10 to a reflector 152, the reflected energy being fed via coupler 157 to a detector 74 and the transmitted energy being fed via coupler 156 to a detector 73, for comparison at 78. Preferred wavelengths and distances are given.
