Abstract
1353836 Counting apparatus BENDIX CORP 16 May 1972 [25 May 1971] 22968/72 Headings G4A and G4D A counting system for registering the difference between positive and negative pulse inputs F, R is designed to overcome the problem of reading a rapidly fluctuating value. The system involves a main counter 18 which displays the result and a low capacity, auxiliary counter 24; the incoming pulses are normally directed to the auxiliary counter 24 but when it reaches its limit in either direction further input pulses in that direction are diverted into the main counter. The value in the auxiliary counter 24 is sampled at intervals and an average value is registered on a further counter 62. At intervals determined by a clock 48 the value in the average counter 62 is added (algebraically) to the main counter and subtracted from the auxiliary counter to correct the reading on the main counter. In a simpler form of the invention (Fig. 1, not shown) the averager 32 simply determines the sign of the average and then at intervals causes a single count to be transferred from the auxiliary to the main counter, or vice versa, according to the sign. Detailed circuitry for each element of Fig. 2 is given in the Specification.
