Abstract

1353559 Bolt anchoring device RAWPLUG CO Ltd 29 Nov 1972 [29 Nov 1971] 55233/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division F2] A method of making an expansible bolt anchoring device, comprising a segmented cylindrical metal shell 1 and a metal ferrule 10 for holding the segments assembled as a cylinder, the ferrule being in the form of a cap comprising an apertured disc 11 with a depending skirt 12, comprises flanging the skirt to form an inwardly directed circumferential lip 13 and assembling the segments in the cap by successively placing one end of each segment therein so that the segments are located in edgeto-edge longitudinal contact with each other and the lip of the skirt is engaged in a circumferential groove of the shell defined by channels 14 in the shell segments. The device also comprises a conical or tapered cast metal expansion member 2. The member may either be in the form of a screw-threaded nut engaging with shank 6, or it may constitute the bolt head with head member 7 being a separate nut. In either case, the tightening of head member 7 causes the expansion member to be drawn towards the head. The expansion member is retained in the shell by means of projections 8 engaging in gaps 9. Insertion of the segments is facilitated by bevelling the edges adjacent channel 14, the longitudinal edges of the segments being provided with complementary serrations (16), Figs. 1, 3 (not shown), to assist the assembly within the ferrule. The segments may be securely assembled using a tying wire or spring wire clip 17 which engages in a circumferential shell groove yet still allows expansion of the device when bolting an article 19 to a wall 4.
