Abstract

723,211. Wall &c., plugs. RAWLPLUG CO., Ltd. April 10, 1952 [April 13, 1951], No. 8686/51. Class 89 (1). [Also in Group XXIII] Means for anchoring bolts in brickwork, masonry, mine galleries, &c. comprising a segmental sleeve 7 held together at one end by a cap 8, has the other end of the segments provided with lateral circumferentially extending projections 13 to engage projections 11 on the expanding member 1 and prevent its complete withdrawal. The projections have corresponding faces at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the sleeve. The expanding member 1 is initially conical and is provided with as many flats 10 as there are segments 7. In the production of the flats metal is left to form the projections 11. The member 1 may be a nut as shown, to engage a bolt 3, or may be the bolt head. The projections 11 pass between the segments on expansion to prevent relative rotation. The edges of the segments have interfitting projections and recesses 71 as shown in Fig. 4 and may be grooved for one or more retaining springs 9. To facilitate removal after expansion, internal helical grooves 30, Fig. 7 may be provided. Lead in grooves 32 registering with slots 33 in the cap 8 permit the introduction of an extractor, (see Group XXIII). Specification 444,623 is referred to. The Provisional Specification refers to Specification 538,709.
