Abstract

1,198,318. Wall plugs. A. FISCHER. 6 Oct., 1967 [6 Oct., 1966], No. 45656/67. Heading F2H. [Also in Division B3] A fastening means for use in masonry comprises a fixing element 1 in the form of a masonry drill the stem of which is provided at one end with two opposite flat surfaces 4 shaped to form a drill tip 3 and is tapered inwardly from said one end, and an expanding sleeve 10 intended to surround the element 1 when the latter is in place in a bore drilled in masonry, the sleeve having an internal taper so that by forcing the sleeve over the tapered portion of the element 1 the sleeve is spread outwardly into engagement with the wall of the drill bore to secure the element therein. The drill end of the element 1 has part conical surfaces extending between said flat surfaces. The sleeve may have longitudinal slots 12 and may be provided with a collar at its outer end. The outer end of the element may be shaped to form a shank to fit a drill chuck and it may have a point 9 of weakness between the shank and stem.
