Abstract

1309391 Wall plugs RAWPLUG CO Ltd 18 May 1970 [20 Feb 1969] 9282/69 Heading F2H An expansible wall plug comprises a cylindrical shell formed by two or more longitudinal segments 1, 2 moulded, e.g. of nylon, in one piece with an integral hinge 3 by which they are joined together, which segments, when placed face to face define a bore 5 at least partially closed at one end 9 and open at the other end, the bore being enlarged adjacent the end 9 to accomodate a tapered expansion member 11, the walls of the enlargement converging towards the open end so that as the expansion member 11 is moved towards the open end the segments 1, 2 are forced apart. The segments are held together by a wire clip or rubber ring 17, or by the engagement of studs or ears on the edges of one segment in bores or recesses in the opposing segment edges. The end wall 9 may be frangible by the end of the bolt or stud 7 being retained, when the plug has been expanded as much as possible. The expansion member 11 is a metal or plastics nut with lugs 12 engageable in longitudinal slots (13) (Fig. 4, not shown) in the segments, or in the gaps 20 between the segments. Alternatively the nut may be of slightly oval cross-section, and the lugs 12 omitted.
