Abstract

1353468 Cellular core for laminates SHORT BROS & HARLAND Ltd 8 July 1971 [10 July 1970] 33711/70 Heading B5N A cellular core 12, which may be provided with a facing sheet on one or both faces, comprises a plurality of rows of contiguous cells in which each cell of a row is provided with a communicating aperture, e.g. a slot to one or each adjacent cell of the row and in which the end cells defining an edge of the cellular core are formed with passages 14, 15 which provide a communication between each end cell and one or each adjacent end cell, which passages are left unobstructed when a flat edge member 18, 19 is secured to the end cell around the periphery of the core throughout the depth of said core. The cells are preferably of hexagonal construction and one of the facing sheets 17 is preferably perforated. Any water which may collect within the cells of the core may flow freely through the apertures and passages to drainage holes which may be provided in the facing sheets or the flat edge members. The edge members 18, 19 are preferably of channel cross-section. The cellular core provided with the facing sheets may be used as a noise attenuating panel in aircraft engines.
