Abstract

1279692 Laminates ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd 22 Nov 1969 57276/69 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions E1 F1 and F2] A laminate comprises a porous layer 2 e.g. of compressed wire wool or of a material made porous by drilling holes there through, an impervious layer 3 and a cellular structure 4 having walls 5 defining a plurality of cells 6, the cellular structure being attached to and located between the said two layers and having apertures 7 formed in opposed walls of each cell, the apertures being arranged in parallel lines. The cellular structure may consist of a plurality of corrugated strips welded together at their lines of contact. A drainage duct may be provided in communication with the apertures so that a fluid in anyone of the cells can drain into the drainage duct through the apertures. In a preferred embodiment, the laminate may be formed into or form part of a tapering duct, the apertures lying in a substantially circumferential plane with the drainage duct located at the lowest part of the tapering duct. The drainage duct may be provided by deforming the walls of axially adjacent cells and the impervious outer layer may be stressed to form the outer surface of the duct. The tapering duct may form the exhaust collector of a gas turbine engine; alternatively the laminate may be in the form of an acoustic lining.
