Abstract
1,196,465. Silencers for gaseous flow. C.R. PAILLET. June 28, 1967 [June 28, 1966], No.29842/67. Heading F1B. A silencer comprises a number of aerofoil shaped elements 7, 8 forced in a duct 11, the elements forming Venturi shaped passages therebetween. An elongated element 1, Fig. 1, is formed and cut into lengths to form the aerofoil elements, each element having a case 3 of sound absorbing materials such as glass fibre and a cover of metal sheet or plastic material which may be perforated. Holes 5 are formed through the case 3 for the reception of rods which secure the elements in the duct. The elements may be arranged in a plurality of adjacent rows as in Fig.2 or two rows of elements (9), (10) Fig. 3 (not shown) may be spaced apart to form a resonance chamber therebetween. Half-section elements 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, to fit against the sides of the sides of the duct are formed by dividing the element 1 along the centre line.
