Abstract

1352884 Photo-electric fluid flow measurement INSINOORITOIMISTO MAA JA VERSI OY 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970 (2)] 26093/71 Heading G1A The rate at which an underground liquid passes laterally through a strainer tube is determined from the rate at which a colloidal solution introduced into the strainer tube is dispersed. The solution may be coloured and its dispersion may be determined photo-electrically, alternatively it may be radio active. A sonde for insertion in the strainer tube may comprise a light source 3 Fig.1, and a photo-cell 4 including fibre optic light guides 1, 2 and a measuring gap. The outer casing 8 of the sonde is movable and is lowered to form a solution container and is raised when the sample is at the desired depth to introduce the solution into the liquid. Two seals 10, 18 seal off a length of the strainer tube and a plunger 17 is provided to effect mixing. The sonde is controlled from above and poles 13 provide for flushing out the strainer.
