1352827 Diaphragm unit for gas meters UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 April 1971 [9 May 1970] 48752/73 Divided out of 1346763 Heading G1R In a diaphragm unit for a gas meter, a flexible diaphragm 2 having a rigid central disc 4 is clamped between co-operating peripheral surfaces 14, 16 of pan elements 6, 8 moulded from plastics material, the elements having single pan recesses 10, 12 which define respective chambers on opposite sides of the diaphragm and being secured together by a filament. The diaphragm may be formed of leather, synthetic rubber, plastics or a synthetic rubber - or plastics-coated fabric or textile material. The pan elements are preferably joined at their peripheral flanges 18, 20 by stitching using a wire thread 22 Fig. 2 or by wire staples (24), (24') as in Fig. 3 (not shown). As disclosed in Specification 1312041, the peripheral region of the diaphragm may be formed with integrally moulded raised pips engaging in recesses in the surfaces 14, 16 to locate the diaphragm 2 correctly between the flanges 18, 20.
