Abstract
1352646 Piezo-electric generators PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 June 1972 [18 June 1971] 28082/72 Heading H2A In a piezo-electric generator in which a hammer 10 supplies an impact to piezo-element(s) 2, 3 under the influence of a spring 14, a disc 23 of plastic and elastic material, e.g. softened p.v.c. a polyolefine or butyl rubber, is interposed between the hammer and the piezo-elements, and return movement of the hammer after impact is retarded by a damping arrangement. The damping may be provided by (a) synthetic resin rings 20, 21 mounted on the hammer 10 in such a way that they frictionally engage the wall of the generator housing 1 during upward movement of the hammer but are free to flex away from the wall during downward movement, and/or (b) a dashpot constituted by the hammer 10, the upper part of the housing 1 and a valve 26. The generator is used to fire a number of flash bulbs in succession.
