Abstract
1351815 Measuring liquid electrically C E TEMPLER 19 April 1972 [18 May 1971] 15447/71 Heading G1N The level of a conductive liquid 10 in a tube 11 is determined by measuring the capacitance between a cylindrical electrode 12 surrounding the tube and the liquid itself, a shield 14 being provided around the electrode 12. As shown in Fig. 1, the shield 14 is a driven shield and insulation 13 and 15 also surround the tube. A grounded shield may be provided over the driven shield. The capacitor C provided by the electrode 12 and liquid 10 is arranged in the circuit shown in Fig. 2. Switches S1, S3 and S2, S4 close and open alternately in pairs to charge and discharge the capacitors C and C2, the current through a meter M then being related to the capacitance of capacitor C.
