Abstract

1351378 Acoustic temperature gauge DAIMLER-BENZ AG 14 Oct 1971 [30 Oct 1970] 47871/71 Heading H4D [Also in Division G3] In a temperature gauge for hot gases, comprising a pneumatic oscillator having an inlet channel 12 through which gases are fed to a diffuser 13, a wedge 18 in the diffuser, outlet channels 14, 15 from the diffuser, and return channels 16, 17 connected from the diffuser outlet back to its inlet, each outlet channel is at least half the length of a return channel and leads into a respective throttle channel 26 having at least half the cross-sectional area of the inlet 19 of the diffuser. This construction effectively confines the oscillating gas volume to a region between inlet 19 and throttle channels 26 and is stated to give an oscillation frequency substantially independent of the hot gas pressure. The frequency is sensed by a quartz crystal sensor 23 coupled to an oscillograph. The oscillator may be made by etching apertures in laminations which are then stacked and soldered together.
