Abstract

1350967 Furniture joints; chairs KUSCH & CO SITZMOBELWERKE GmbH 19 April 1971 [4 April 1970] 26138/71 Headings A4H and A4J [Also in Division F2] Two structural components, e.g. tubes 1 and 7, 8, are inter-connected by a connecting device comprising an element 10 and a bush 20 fixed to the respective components, element 10 having a frusto-conical outer surface and a continuous axial bore 13, and bush 20 having a frusto-conical recess 21 of slightly smaller dimensions than the frusto-conical surface of element 10, and a transverse rear wall 22 provided with a threaded bore 23. Element 10 is inserted into recess 21 with the inter-position of a disc 25, and a screw 26 is passed through a bore in tube 1, bore 13, and screwed into bore 23. Element 10 may have a cylindrical collar 12 for abutment by disc 25 and for connection to tube 1; element 10 may have an elliptical or polygonal cross-section. The connecting devices may be embodied in a chair, the tubular frame sides 1 (2), Fig. 1, (not shown) carrying the elements 10 and the tubular framework 7, 8 of the seat (3) carrying the bushes 20. The seat (3) and back (4) are upholstered, and are provided with detachable zip openable coverings. To connect the back (4) to the frames 1 (2), screws (32), Fig.3, (not shown) and (37), Fig.4, (not shown) are inserted in bores (31, 36) in cylindrical elements (30, 35) secured to the frames 1 (2) and threaded into bores in the back (4). The connecting device can be used to connect wooden members, e.g. of a chair, element 10 and bush 20 including a strap (15), Fig. 5, (not shown) which can be screwed to the members. The connecting devices can be embodied in a chair comprising sides 1 (2) of cast metal or plastics and a seat (3), Figs. 6, 8, (not shown) and a back (4), Figs.6, 7, (not shown) of plastics. The sides include integrally cast frusto-conical projections 10, which may include collars 12, and the seat (3) has frusto-conical recesses (21) moulded therein, the parts being retained by axial screws (48). The back (4) has edges (44) received in grooves (43) in the sides, the parts being retained by screws (47).
