Description

MECHANICAL WOODWORK JOINT THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A HEAVY DUTY MECHANICAL WOODWORK JOINTING SYSTEM.
CONVENTIONAL TENON AND MORTISE JOINTS ARE LABOUR INTENSIVE AND TIME CONSUMING TO PRODUCE ACCURATELY, PARTICULARLY SO WHEN COMPOUND ANGLED, AND AFTER ASSEMBLY ARE SUBJECT TO SPLITTING AND SHRINKAGE WHICH ULTIMATELY WEAKENS AND DISFIGURES THE JOINT.
CURRENT TYPES OF MECHANICAL JOINTS ARE UNACCEPTABLE, FOR EXAMPLE, ON TIMBER STAIRWAY STRUCTURES WHERE STRENGTH AND APPEARANCE ARE ARCHITECTURALLY IMPORTANT.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION THERE IS PROVIDED A SCREW ON STEEL TENON EITHER OBLONG OR ROUND WHICH CAN BE FITTED INSTANTLY TO A PRE-CUT TIMBER FACE, THE TENON IS THEN INSERTED INTO A MORTISE, THE WASHER AND DRAW SCREW ASSEMBLED AND TIGHTENED USING AN ALLEN KEY TO PRODUCE A FLUSH FITTING COMPRESSION JOINT OF GREAT STRENGTH.

Claims (1)

  1. A SCREW ON STEEL TENON MEANS A CONSIDERABLE SAVING IN LABOUR AND TIME COSTS IN PRODUCING IN WORKSHOP OR ON SITE AN ARCHITECTURALLY ACCEPTABLE WOODWORK STRUCTURAL JOINT.
    A SCREW ON STEEL TENON IS EASY TO INSTALL USING EITHER SEMI SKILLED ON SITE LABOUR OR USING WORK-SHOP PRE-FABRICATION FACILITIES TO PRODUCE.
    A SCREW ON STEEL TENON IS SUBSTANTIALLY AS DESCRIBED HEREIN WITH REFERENCE TO FIGURES 1 TO 5 OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS SHEETS 1 TO 3.
