1410762 Furniture frames and joints PROJECT OFFICE FURNITURE Ltd 22 Aug 1972 [23 Aug 1971] 39478/71 Heading A4H [Also in Division F2] A joint for connecting together three intersecting elongated elements extending away from the joint in mutually transverse directions, e.g. for connecting a hollow leg 11 of front frame 10 of a chair simultaneously to a cross-bar 12 and to a spacer bar 16 extending between the frame 10 and a rear frame 13, is formed by providing an aperture 21 in one of the elements, as shown in the bar 16, passing a second one of the elements, as shown the cross-bar 12 which is of narrower section than the bar 16, through the aperture, and connecting the third element, as shown the leg 11, to the assembly by passing a screw 24 through an aperture 25 in the third element 11, through a plain bore extending longitudinally of the first element 16 and into a screwthreaded bore 23 in the second element 12. Preferably, as shown, two screws 24 are provided, the element 16 is of tubular metal, and the element 11, which is also of tubular metal, embraces the inter-connection between the elements 12 and 16. Similar joints associated with each of the front and rear legs 11, 14 of a chair frame secure these four legs in spaced relationship as determined by the lengths of the cross-bars 12 and bars 16 to complete the frame. The rear legs 14 are extended upwardly and carry fixing devices 19 to secure a backrest part 18 which is associated with a seat part 17 resting on the front cross-bar 12 and located by fixing devices 19a. The front legs 11 may also be extended at 30 to support armrests 31. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1285229.
