Abstract

1,273,902. Seats. BIDDULPH INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 19, 1971 [March 12, 1970 No. 11870/70. Heading A4J. A seat comprises a tubular frame and a seat member of yieldable material, the latter having slots or channels which are of a size to snap over members of the frame and are arranged at different angles to locate the seat member in all directions. In the form shown the frame comprises two leg members 13 and two connecting members 14 which are welded or otherwise rigidly fixed to the leg members at their crossing points. The seat member 11 is a hollow moulding of tough plastics with an underside recess and thicker front and side borders 22, 23, and has formed in it longitudinal channels 25 to fit over frame members 14 and cross notches 24 to fit over the adjacent horizontal parts of the members 13, in each case with snap action. The members 14 are extended and bent upwards to receive sockets 26 formed in the ends of a back-rest 12, whereby the latter is detachably mounted on the frame. The invention is applicable to a stool and to a settee or other extended seating, for which intermediate legs and back-rest supports may be provided.
