Abstract
1349477 Reducing iron ore ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 9 June 1971 [19 June 1970] 19678/71 Heading C7D Specular hematite ore is reduced in a twostage fluidized bed process in the first of which reduction is terminated when the combined oxygen content is 0À01 to 0À2 parts greater than the equilibrium wustite composition to yield a product which is subsequently reduced to a highly metallized condition. The process may be operated continuously with partially reduced ore being discharged from the first stage with its oxygen content 0À05 to 0À2 parts above equilibrium. Operating temperatures for the two stages may be 1100-1800 F and 1200-1900 F respectively, with the gas composition showing a CO 2 : C0 ratio 0À2 to 1À5, and H 2 O: H 2 ratio of 0À2 to 3, in the first zone and 0À2 to 0À6 in each case in the second zone.
