Detachable s h i p structures form rafts.- Detachable floatable cabins for ships in which a series of screwspindle locking-devices are employed are constructed with such spindles which pass through the walls of the cabin and engage sockets in the bulwarks or parts secured to the deck. A second series may be emp.oyed, and the actuating-mechanism coupled for simultaneous release of the spindles. The screwed spindle c is one of a number around the walls of a cabin or deckhouse a. and is screwed into or out of a socket i on a fixed part c of the ship by rotating the handle h. A second set f at a higher leval is operated by the handle m, and the outer end is pinned to a pivoted sheet o, which grips the side c. In a modification, the spindles carry spur-wheels which intergear with worm and worm gear on a spindle on which is a chain-wheel operated by a chain from outside the cabin, or by a handle on the wheel inside. In a further modification, the top spindles pass into non-pivoted dog-members which engage the top of the fixed part of the ship.
