Abstract

1348069 Barge and pusher vessel T T LUNDE 25 Oct 1971 49536/71 Headings B7A B7S and B7V [Also in Divisions E2 and F2] Apparatus for rough-water towing of barge 2 by tug 1 comprises shock-absorbing pusher knee 4 and tiller lines 3a, 3b connecting the stern of the tug with the port and starboard sides of the stern of the barge through resilient spring assemblies 11a and 11b. Tiller lines 3a, 3b are anchored each to a grooved wire rope drum 31a, 31b rotatably mounted on the tug deck and these drums are rotated by piston/ cylinders 33a, 33b to tension the tiller lines. Each piston/cylinder can be selectively operated to lash tug and barge together or to pay out the tiller lines until they automatically drop from the drums. Upon detachment of these lines, spring 7 through plunger 6 and button 8 of the pusher knee immediately pushes the tug and barge apart. Figs. 14-16 (not shown) illustrate a second embodiment having a quick release device, in the form of a clamshell fitting 9 and a splitter 100 for disconnecting the tiller lines.
