Abstract
1302423 Marker buoys W Y HIGGS 2 Sept 1970 [16 Oct 1969] 42009/70 Heading B7A Anchoring apparatus for lifesaving equipment such as lifeboats 113 and rafts 114 carried by marine vessel 10, the equipment being releasable from the vessel, comprises buoy 12 releasably housed in or releasably secured to the vessel. The buoy has a rail 31 of adequate strength to permit the lifeboats and rafts to be secured to the buoy when they and the buoy are released from the vessel. A drum 23 carries line 11 which is connected with the buoy and with the vessel, brake 73, Fig. 7 (not shown), permitting controlled paying out of the line from the drum. Fastenings 56, 57, 59 and release valve 58 permit the release of the buoy from the vessel when the vessel sinks. The line 11 maintains anchoring connection between the sunk vessel and the released buoy on surfacing of the buoy. The drum 23 may be mounted in the buoy or in the vessel.
