Abstract

1347231 Rotary positive-displacement machines J P MARCEL 11 Jan 1972 [14 Jan 1971 9 March 1971] 1139/72 Heading F1F A pump, compressor or motor, has on each side of an annular rotor 208 a groove 207 or 207A housing pistons 206 or 206A that are fixed to a stator ring 201 or 201A and co-operate with radially-sliding partitions 213 in the rotor. Each partition has notches which when in register with the grooves allow the pistons to pass. Rocking "fingers" 216 in the partitions slide in cam grooves 223, 224 defined partially by annular plates 226, 226A. Tubes 211, 211A for the working fluid communicate with the grooves 207, 207A as shown. Cavities 234, 234A form fluid thrust bearings. A second embodiment, Fig.3 and Figs. 4 to 9 (not shown), differs chiefly in that a piston 363 or (364) is lodged in each of four axiallyspaced annular grooves 361 on the rotor 351, which encloses the stator 341, the latter comprising a part 342 with axial working-fluid inlet and outlet conduits 378, 382. The partitions 368 slide axially in the rotor between annular cams (345) on the stator and have pressure-equalizing ducts (385) therein. A third embodiment, Fig.11 and Figs.10 and 12 (not shown), differs from the second one mainly in that the rotor 406 carries two sets of axially-sliding partitions 409, 413 that co-operate with pistons 404, 417 fixed to the stator 401 and a rotary output shaft 414, various ways of controlling this machine when used as a motor being described with reference to Figs.13 to 26 (not shown).
