Abstract

1347173 Rotary positive-displacement machines J P MARCEL 11 Jan 1972 [14 Jan 1971 9 March 1971] 1127/72 Heading F1F A pump, or motor, has on opposite sides of a rotor 2 pistons 36, 37 sliding in annular chambers 32, 33, 32A, 33A, which are defined partly by annular members 47, 47A of substantially U-shaped cross-section and furnished with slots 56, 57 and fixed parts 73 accommodating radially-sliding partitions 55 that serve as abutments. The pistons engage loosely with pins 41 and the partitions have pins 64 sliding in cam grooves 63 in the rotor. Longitudinally-extending pressure-balancing ducts 75, 82 are formed in the partitions. When the machine is used as a motor working fluid e.g. oil, enters the spaces between the pistons and partitions by way of a fixed connection 91, ducts 93 in an output shaft 3 and ducts 95, 96, 104, 106 in the rotor, the ducts 104, 106 being controlled by spring-loaded valves 114, 116, which permit reversal of the rotation direction of the rotor. The exhaust fluid is discharged through ducts 97, 98, 105, 107, an annular groove 101 and a duct 102. A second embodiment, Figs.9 to 14 (not shown), differs in that the pistons are fixed to the casing and slide in annular grooves in the radially outer surface of the rotor, and that the partitions slide axially in the rotor and have notches to allow the pistons to pass. In a third embodiment, Figs. 15 to 17 (not shown), the pistons are again fixed to the casing but the partitions slide radially in the rotor instead of axially.
