Abstract
1424993 Reciprocating motors or pumps RELIANCE ELECTRIC CO 5 Feb 1974 [19 April 1973] 05197/74 Heading F1A An hydraulic reciprocating motor or pump has a plurality of slotted working chambers 22 each reciprocably receiving an elongate piston member 110, the latter being provided with a cylindrical recess 120 in which is disposed a roller 24 for co-operation with an undulating cam surface 74. In the motor shown, the working chambers 22 are formed as peripheral slots in a rotor 20 having a shaft 16 keyed thereto. The ends of the slots are closed by end housing sections 44, 48 between which is sandwiched a stator 40 on the inner surface of which is formed the cam surface 74. During operation the piston members 110 tend to turn in their slots about an axis parallel to the axis of the rotor. This rotation increases the contact pressure between each piston member and the sides of its slot at diagonally opposed regions 116, 118 and 112, 114, whereby sealing is improved. Liquid is alternately supplied to and exhausted from the slots through a ring of alternating inlet and outlet ports 90 and 92 in housing section 48, the ports coming into communication with the adjacent ends of the slots on rotation of the rotor. The ends of the piston members are provided with lubrication grooves 126, 128 which deliver hydraulic fluid to the roller recesses 120 and lubricating grooves 130 along the sides. Passages 100 passing axially through the rotor connect the ports 90, 92 to slots 102 in the housing section 44 or the end of rotor remote from the ports 90, 92 thereby to pressure balance the axial forces acting on the rotor.
