Abstract

1347104 Liquid heater COLUMBIA GAS SYSTEM SERVICE CORP 19 April 1971 [2 Feb 1970] 20608/71 Heading F4A A liquid heater, particularly for a swimming pool, comprises an insulated housing 152 containing a gas burner unit 210 having an apertured substantially planar plate 214, and a plurality of elongated heat exchange tubes 166 mounted below the burner unit and receiving heat therefrom, and providing a flow path for liquid to be heated, therebeing an exhaust opening 236 in the housing, whereby combustion products from the burner flow around the tubes 166 to the exhaust opening to heat the liquid in the tubes. The burner plate 214 may be of the kind described and claimed in patent Specifications 1,290,536, 1,297,213. The tubes may be finned, and a plurality of deflector plates (230), Fig. 5 (not shown), and the circulation of hot gases around the tubes. Liquid enters the heat exchange tubes through an annular valve member 48, which is raised off its seat 52 if the rate of flow exceeds a certain value so that the liquid by-passes the heat exchanger through manifold 184.
