Abstract

1346910 Slitting or grooving tubes TPT Ltd 26 June 1972 [3 Nov 1971] 51062/71 Heading B4B [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for the production of slits or indentations in or alongside the bunching groove of a yarn carrier 1 comprises a rotary headstock 9, a concentric spindle 8 mounted on the headstock, arms 6 mounted on the spindle 1 and a plurality of spindles 5 projecting from the arms 6 to receive yarn package tubes 1 and a cutter 4 mounted on a shaft 12 intermittently rotated to make one revolution to insert a slit or indentation in or alongside the bunching groove, the cutter being cam shaped and formed with a profile having a maximum width at the forward end relative to the direction of rotation and tapering to a line or zero width at the trailing edge relative to the direction of rotation, and a stop 13 mounted on the spindle 12 to position the tube for insertion of the slit or indentation by the cutter 4.
