Abstract

1376510 Milling cutters J T BENNETT 29 March 1972 14657/72 Heading B3K A rotary tool holder comprises a body 11, Fig. 1, with slots having parallel sides 33, 35, 45, 47, into which cutter blades 13, 15, are secured, and each blade is located axially and radially by a pair of spools 59, 85, or 81, 71. Each of the carbide blades has a plurality of chipbreaking grooves, formed at an angle (#), Fig. 3 (not shown). In a modification, all of the cutter blades 113, Fig. 9, are located radially by a single cylindrical ridged spool 107, and a spool 109 is provided for each blade so as to locate the latter in the axial direction. The spool (139) may be of regular polygon form Fig. 11 (not shown). In a further modification, a face mill, Fig. 13, has blades 171, each of which is located axially by a cam 199, and a spool 175 is secured to the cutter body 161, and locates the blades in the radial direction.
