Abstract

1346170 Straightening HUGH SMITH (GLASGOW) Ltd and D C JEFFREY 19 April 1971 [10 April 1970] 17052/70 Heading B3E A control device 2 for a plate-straightening machine has two thickness sensing rollers 4, 5 urged towards each other to control a sensing means 8 which sends a signal to the control means 14A, 15A, 16A of the machine. The control device may incorporate one or more sets of spring-loaded plate-thickness sensing rollers 4 and 5 connected to the sensing means 8. The control means 14A, 15A, 16A regulate hydraulic cylinders 14, 15, 16 which vertically adjust the idler rollers 11, 12 and 13 of the straightening machine. The idler rollers co-operate with lower driven rollers 10. The plate is fed and supported by rollers 9 arranged on each side of the sensing rollers. A transducer plate angle sensing device 17 has a roller 18 and measures the difference in height of the bottom of the rollers 18 and 13 and adjusts the cylinder 16 so that the plate leaves the machine horizontally. A photo-electric cell 19 senses the end of a plate and sets the rollers 11, 12 and 13 to an inoperative position.
