1344224 Packaging machines OCME OFFICINA COSTRUZIONI MECCANICHE EMILIANA S RL 12 May 1972 [18 May 1971] 22504/72 Heading B8C In a machine for packaging articles such as cans and bottles, the article 54 is brought by intermittent conveyer 10 to surface 11 from which the article is pushed, by a rod 14 on endless chain 16, against a cardboard blank 44 supplied by conveyer 55 to lie in an inclined position against tiltable walls 12, such that a further rod 15 may partially fold portion 46 of the blank before the article and blank are pushed on to conveyer 32, walls 12 being lowered. Movable side panels 18 follow and guide the package on to conveyer 32. Portion 46 of the blank is then folded down by section 27 of fixed rod 23 while edges 51 are folded along article 54 by portions 28 of fixed lateral rods 24. A tooth 21 of conveyer 22 then folds section 48 of the blank up, and teeth 30 of rotary cams 25 fold edges 53. Nozzles 31 spray glue on to the outer faces of edges 51, 53 on to which edges 50, 52 are folded by inclined rods 26. The package is next pushed on to surface 33 between driven belts 35 which are halted to allow the glue to set before moving the package on to surface 59 along which the package is carried by a tooth 38 on chains 37 to a folderpresser device 40. Nozzle 60 sprays glue on to the outer face of section 48 on to which flap 49 is pressed by rollers 67 of reciprocating presser element 65. Chains 37 then convey the closed package away from the machine. The elements of the machine are adjustable for different sizes of article.
